About the Poet:

Christina Georgina Rossetti (1830 – 1894) was an English poet who wrote a variety of romantic, devotional and children’s poems. She is perhaps best known for her poem Goblin Market.

 

ক্রিস্টিনা জর্জিনা রোসেটি (1830 – 1894) ছিলেন একজন ইংরেজ কবি যিনি নানা ধরনের রোমান্টিক (কল্পনানির্ভর), ভক্তিমূলক এবং শিশুদের কবিতা লিখেছিলেন। তিনি সম্ভবত তার ‘গবলিন মার্কেট’ কবিতার জন্য সবচেয়ে বেশি খ্যাতি লাভ করেন।

 
The Text
 
Boats sail on the rivers,
নৌকাগুলি পাড়ি দেয় নদীতে,
 
And ships sail on the seas;
এবং জাহাজগুলি পাড়ি দেয় সমুদ্রে;
 
But clouds that sail across the sky
কিন্তু মেঘগুলি যা আকাশ জুড়ে ভেসে যায়
 
Are prettier than these.
এগুলির চেয়েও সুন্দর।
 
There are bridges on the rivers,
নদীর উপর সেতু আছে,
 
As pretty as you please
তোমাকে তৃপ্তি দেবার মতোই সুন্দর;
 
But the bow that bridges heaven,
কিন্তু যে রামধনু আকাশে সেতু নির্মাণ করে,
 
And overtops the trees,
এবং গাছের উপর দিয়ে যায়,
 
And builds a road from earth to sky,
এবং পৃথিবী থেকে আকাশ পর্যন্ত একটি রাস্তা তৈরি করে,
 
Is prettier far than these.
এগুলির থেকে অনেক বেশি সুন্দর।
