FLOOD RAVAGES MIDNAPORE

(By a Staff Reporter)

Midnapore, July 20 : Floods ravaged large areas of Midnapore causing loss to life and property and disrupting normal life. The incessant rain over the past few days has inundated several villages in Midnapore. Several rivers like Shilabati, Rupnarayan and Keleghai have been overflowed by the heavy downpour. Many villages under Sabang, Ghatal, Egra and other sub-divisions have been completely flooded. More than a lakh of people have been left homeless. Mud houses swept away and standing crops of several lakhs of rupees have been lost in the districts. Communication has been cut off at several places. Rescue operation has already started on war footing. Many have been sheltered in high roads and high school buildings. Packets of dry food, pouches of water and medicines are being air-dropped from helicopters in the flood-affected areas. In the meanwhile the Chief Minister Mrs. Mamata Banerjee has convened a meeting in Nabanna with the State Home Secretary to review the latest situation in the flood-hit district. A compensation of Rs. 10000/- for those who have lost their houses totally and Rs. 5000/- for those who have got their houses partly damaged has been announced.

Prokash : I have returned just two days ago.

I : Where did you go this time?

Prokash : This time I went to Singapore with my ship ‘The Vikrant’.

Prokash : How was your trip?

I : Fine. The weather was very pleasant.

Prokash : But we had to face a tempest. My ship was going to be wrecked. Thank God! We returned safely this time.

I : Don’t worry. God is always with us. He will save us from danger.

Prokash : Hm. You are right. Hope to meet you again soon. Good bye, now.
