Activity 13

Write a story in which you and your two friends are forced to spend a night in an old, desolate building far away from home.

A Horrible Night

Once Biplab, Prokash and I went out for a day’s outing to a nearby forest. We enjoyed the whole day and started for home in the evening. But suddenly it started raining heavily. Seeking shelter, we came across a desolate house and entered it. In the meantime the sun descended and the darkness covered the whole area. In fear of losing the way in the forest, we decided to spend the night there. We collected some dry wood and stones to lit the place. The light from wooden fire made the atmosphere mysterious. We took some dry foods left in our bags and lay down to sleep in palpitating hearts. But we could not sleep. The cry of bats and owls made the atmosphere eerie. We also heard some peculiar sounds which made us frightened. I was nervous but Biplab tried to make it easy. I hardly knew how the time rolled away. At last we saw the sunlight at dawn and immediately left the house. It was really a moment full of suspense and horror.

Activity 14

Write a paragraph on a magic show. Use the following points:

(Place – the atmosphere – dress of the magician – tricks that he performed – how you liked the show – did you feel interested in performing magic by yourself – conclusion)

A Magic Show

A magic show was held in the big hall of our school on the day before Puja vacation. Wearing a shining dress with a turban a great magician, Pankaj Sarkar, started performing his tricks with magic items. At first he showed some tricks with cards and coins. (We all watched him in attention and excitement.) Then the magician invited a student to become a part of his performance. Souvik, the smartest boy of our class, accepted the challenge. The magician made him drink two bottles of water. Next, he was made to bend and his hands were moved up and down. I could not believe my eyes when he started throwing water out of his mouth like a tube well. At last the magician made a little girl lie on the floor and he chanted some magical words. The girl’s body began to raise in the air. I was simply spellbound and clapped madly. I was really interested in learning some magic. After returning home, I tried to perform certain tricks by myself to solve my problems easily like the magician. I will never forget the magic show I saw in school.
