Ans: A pebble becomes smooth because it rolls at the bottom of the river
and its edges are worn away and so its rough surface becomes smooth and shiny.
(c) How does a pebble become grains of sand?
Ans: If a pebble is carried away by a river, it becomes smaller and
smaller till at last it is reduced to a grain of sand.
(d) What does the author mean by “The Great Book of Nature?”
Ans: By ‘The Great Book of Nature’ the author wants to say that Nature itself
is a great book which has seas, rocks, mountains, rivers, and deserts as its
pages. This book of nature can teach us many things about our world.
