Ans: John saw the turtle while ploughing, the turtle might have been run over if he put it on some other places. Thus Jon thought that the turtle would be safe on his head.

1. Why did the fairy man offer Jon the wind-cap?

Ans: Once Jon saved the life of a turtle keeping it on his head like a hat. Thus in return, the fairy man offered Jon the wind-cap to fulfill his desire of being a sailor.


2. What was the condition that was associated with the wind-cap?

Ans: The condition that was associated with the wind-cap was that no human hand would ever take it off from John’s head.


3. Why did Jon become popular with the sailors?

Ans: Jon became popular with the sailor because he could summon the wind from all the sides with the help of his wind-cap.

1. Why did the sailors try to rip off the cap from Jon’s head?

Ans: The sailors tried to rip off the cap from Jon’s head because the wind that had been whirling about the boat tearing the sails and snapping the spars was called up by the cap.


2. How did Jon divide his time between land and sea?

Ans: The way he spent half the year on a ship and half year on the shore, the same Jon divided his time between land and sea.


3. Do you think John was rightly called ‘captain turtle’? Give reasons for your answer.

Ans: Yes , I think John was rightly called ‘Captain Turtle’ because like a turtle, he was as much at home on the water as he was on the land.


4. Why did Jon want to return the wind cap to the fairy man?

Ans: Jon wanted to return the wind cap to the fairy man because he did not want any trouble caused unknowingly due to the cap.
